You will often hear me say, “get your eyes on Jesus.” I am going to give you a visual and explanation as to what that means, so you will always understand this very popular saying!
For the purpose of this devotion, I am going to give you a definition and example of what I mean by “details.”
Any THING that causes hurt, rejection, anger, confusion, trauma. ANYTHING!
That could be, something your spouse did.
Said.
Is talking about doing.
Or what they are NOT doing.
Anything that is on your mind a lot. Causing you distress. Trapping and captivating you.
That is, for the purpose of this message what I mean by……….a DETAIL.
I want you to look at the photo I have included.

A woman whose eyes are fixed on the scope, the scope is focused on a slide, and on that slide is her DETAIL.

As she looks at the details, they are magnified. They are analyzed and she can see things up close and personal now. She sees things she was not able to see before. The composition of it is now changed as the microscope alters the detail.

It also makes things twisted and warped and no longer in perspective at this magnification will make things grossly out of proportion.

The most important thing to know about this. IF this woman fails to see that her eyes are on the scope, and she doesn’t realize that this is a microscope. She will think this is how it really is, this is her reality. It will prevent her from the truth. She is in reality……..blind.

Now, while what she is looking at IS true, this truth has taken away the BIGGER truth and become her ONLY truth. Do you get this?
This truth on the slide doesn’t have God on it. It’s taken out of context, exaggerated, magnified. Was this what God wanted her to see and be overcome by? Did God want her to be so overcome by the details before her, that it takes over her mind, heart, thoughts emotions, feelings?
With her eyes firmly glued to the microscope, she is missing out on the real truth around her.
How real do you think she feels this is? It’s so close she can touch it. She can see nothing else to make her believe it’s not real. No other solution is being presented. It’s ALL She can see.
So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:18 (Unseen means:  “to see something physical, WITH spiritual results (perception).

That is what we often do when we get hurt. Glue our eyes to it and not let anything else tell us anything. We let that microscope become our whole world. We keep our eyes glued to the scope and detail, and we try and slip God into the picture and have Him come onto that slide and change what is happening before us. Where God is asking us to step away from the detail and look at the real truth right in front of us. HIM!

Why do we let the microscope have so much power over us?

For some of us, we have never known any other way to approach things. The microscope is what we have learned to use to fix things. We love to find the truth. We love to think things to death. We love to discover and analyze. We love to be in control. And that microscope offers a supernatural ability that we don’t often get.

But is it good for us? Does it freak us out to relinquish control and enter into a place of “I don’t have a clue what is going on, I can’t see it anymore. BUT I AM OK with that!!!”

That is the true heart and message of letting go and putting your eyes on JESUS. It is not giving up. Not quitting your prayer and hope and belief. It is simply having the trust and faith in God that you no longer need to have your eyes glued to the detail. To have peace with letting God handle things.

It means forgiving, letting that detail not have you captivated any more and you are letting go of your need for justification.

I know some of you want that, but don’t know how as each day you wake up and find yourself glued to the microscope again. As much as you are exhausted and weary from staring at that detail, you have no clue how to be free. You have forgiven and released. Begged God over and over but yet……..you are stuck.

Rootsinner broken places in you depend on that microscope. Roots create a visor that is over your vision and it has a broken scope. The only way to get them off is through healing and deliverance from God. This can be done in a heartbeat, or layer by layer. It can take a day, or years. You can have more than one. I did. I had so many. But God was faithful to deliver and heal me from many things. I am still undergoing this.

It is so important that everyone becomes aware of what they are captivated by. If you are glued to a microscope by choice, then pray for why. If you are stuck, pray for what is gluing you.

For we walk by faith, not by sight. 2 Cor 5:7
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen… Hebrews 11:1
The thing about those slides that we stare at is they leave out the really important things. Like our spouse’s salvation. their relationship with God. We can feel so angry and sorry for ourselves when we should be seeing our life differently. Are we not saved? Are we not seeking a right relationship with God? We get blind to that when we are scrutinizing someone else’s details.

You want to examine something? Put your eyes on your own heart. Your motives. Your flesh and what you are truly desiring. Just don’t let that slide become your reality for too long. Jesus is the best thing to analyze!

Lord, may we learn to know when we are staring and captivated by the wrong thing. Help our blinded eyes see. If we need healing, show us the way. Help us WANT to trust You more than that microscope and not fear giving it up. In Jesus Name, Amen.

Standing with you,
Sheila Hollinger
