You are 3 in 1 -Spirit, soul, and body. 1 Thessalonians 5:23
I am going to focus on the soul and spirit and how these two parts of you are in constant battle. Our minds are like a TV with an antenna. This “TV” gets its information from the soul and spirit. Every day you will have information being downloaded to you from what your natural eyes see and hear. And if you give it the proper attention, you can see and hear with your spiritual eyes too. God desires to speak to you, to give you vision because that is where REAL HOPE comes from.
I would wake in the morning and SEE with my soulish eyes and HEAR with my soulish ears all that my husband had to say to me about how our marriage was over. I would see how happy and excited he was to leave and go be in his flesh/lust/filled fantasy. His words were very powerful and would start to pull me into a pit.
But that is where I learned something amazing. I always went to God and cried it out. I cried from my soul …..all the hurt and pain my soul was feeling. God collected my tears, held me and waited until I was done. I always felt Him waiting and knew there was a time limit. He was not going to let me stay there because I had asked Him to promise me ….”Make me better, not bitter.” and He was keeping this promise. To make me better……I had to get out of my soul and HEAR and SEE with my spirit.
After I cried my soul/heart out to God, He would then speak to me through my spirit (as we are ONE with God in Spirit.) He would speak to me and show me what was really going on.
I wrote everything down. What my spouse was saying and doing, and then what God was telling and showing me.
Now I had two sets of information to process. And I had to make a choice what to believe; God or what I was hearing and seeing. Making the choice to believe God meant I had to tune out all that I saw and heard and ONLY focus and STAND FIRM on what God had revealed. I got to a point where I stopped speaking or writing down the negative things my spouse did. I stopped complaining to my parents and started to share and emphasize all the positive GOOD changes that were taking place. I would strengthen myself by going over all the progress I saw happening in my spouse, even if it was small, I focused on it to magnify it. Like when he said he wanted to go to church. I really focused on that one statement and prayed it up to God. Calling it to life and existence and YES! He did start to go to church, all by himself. AND then joined a men’s support church group.
FEED THE GOOD SEEDS AND STAMP OUT THE BAD!
Every day, you will have two sets of information being delivered to your mind. As I grew and matured my spirit man, I started to be more in tune and could HEAR and SEE while things were happening right in front of me. While my spouse was talking, I heard him, but ALSO heard and listened in the spirit. Because I chose to listen to what my spirit was hearing and believe it, I had peace even though the conversations were not good. We have to have spiritual discernment or we will get devastated by the enemy’s lies.
Reactions from the soul and spirit
This is why we emphasize to get your eyes and focus on God, to work on your relationship with Him, because if you don’t, your TV is only going to get information from ONE channel and that is a channel that’s not the truth. That channel is open to broadcast from the enemy so it can’t be trusted. BUT the information coming straight from God is PERFECT and CAN BE TRUSTED. If you can truly grasp the importance of this. Our spirits are a direct connection to the Father and we have access to hear and know the truth at all times. He has given us GIFTS to help us. Gifts of wisdom, discernment, and knowledge.
The soul is your human part, the weaker part……..but unless your spirit man is strong, the human part will dominate and you will have all sorts of BAD NEGATIVE reactions to your circumstances. This is where you can be soul-sick and the enemy builds strongholds and claims territory in your life….in the soul. That is why if you want victory, peace, hope, power and SOUND MIND, you must learn to build your spirit man through spending time with God and reading His word. Any problem you have in your soul, can be healed as your spirit man matures and thrives.
For God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of sound judgment and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control]. 2 Timothy 1:7 AMP
How you react to things depends on how strong, mature and in control your spirit man is. When this ‘man’ is mighty and strong in your life, you won’t be easily shaken and thrown ……tossed about. This ‘man’ is strong in faith and is confident in his God! He is ONE with Him and is kept rooted and grounded so when things come at you in the natural realm, you see and hear with both sets of eyes and ears, BUT your spiritual set is STRONGER and has a bigger influence over impacting your decisions AND HOW YOU PRAY.
In that mind of yours, you are always taking in the information that is being fed to you and mulling it over. Always coming to form conclusions and with that you will make decisions and react.
The FRUIT of the spirit will pour forth because this part of you has matured,
”But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control,” Galatians 5:22-23
You will not react in the flesh, or soul when your spirit man has been matured and been allowed to subdue
