My spouse IS a believer. They go to church, read the Word. They serve and it appears they do love the Lord. How can they? Are they really saved or is it all a lie?

We are told as a Child of God, our greatest commandment is to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” Matthew 22:37

He used the word ALL. the word is 3650. holos and means ENTIRE, WHOLE, COMPLETE. To suggest we are to love with our whole, entire, complete heart, soul, mind also suggests that we can keep back parts of ourselves that we don’t surrender to Him. And if we do keep those places for ourselves, or give them to another, THAT is where we set up idols, create strongholds, and open the door to sinful desires.

This is how people can profess to love Him, hear His voice, stand in front of the pulpit because they were called using the gifts He gave them because they come without having to repent in order to keep them. See Romans 11:29

This is what happened to King David! A man after God’s heart, who loved the Lord, yet fell hard into adultery, murder, and lying to cover it up.

We are going to explore the secret places in a man/woman’s heart that they keep back from the Lord for themselves, and how the time of TWILIGHT exposes it! Yes, you heard me……………twilight!

Why does the word TWILIGHT  in the Word of God, relate to our stand?

TWILIGHT 5399. nesheph: time of concealment, to emphasize sin that shuns the day

9Therefore justice is far from us, And righteousness does not overtake us. We [expectantly] hope for light, but only see darkness; We hope for gleam of light, but we walk in darkness and gloom. 10We grope for a wall like the blind, We grope like those who have no eyes. We stumble at midday as in the twilight; Among those who are healthy we are like dead men. Isaiah 59

Let’s take a close look at how twilight pertains to the condition a man or woman is in right before they get caught in the snare of the adulterous spirit.

My heart staggers; fear makes me tremble. The twilight of my desire has turned to horror. Isaiah 21:4

In the Word of God, sometimes when the word TWILIGHT is mentioned, it’s used to describe a person’s belief that they can retreat into a dark place and God will not be able to see their sin to judge them. Only if they knew the truth about twilight…….

He was crossing the street near the house of an immoral woman, strolling down the path by her house. (9) It was at twilight, in the evening, as deep darkness fell. Proverbs 7:8

Let us look at King David and what was going on when he spied Bathsheba taking a bath. He had departed from his normal routine.

In the spring, at the time when kings go off to war, David sent Joab out with the king’s men and the whole Israelite army. But David remained in Jerusalem. (2) One evening (twilight) David got up from his bed and was strolling around on the roof of the palace. From the roof he saw a woman bathing. The woman was very beautiful, (3) and David sent someone to find out about her. (2 Samuel 11:1)

There are very key things here about King David. He had departed from his normal season, departed from the normal of being asleep, and had gone strolling on the rooftop. That word strolling, just like the man in Proverbs 7, has modifiers. It means “to travel to a city,” to be specific to David’s walking, he was traveling away from his normal because he had a restless heart, created by the area that was morally and ethically corrupt!

David was after ONE night of pleasure from Bathsheba, but the pit opened wide and captured and tied him to her, and sin spiraled out of control. She became pregnant, to cover this up, David turned deeper to sin and had her husband killed.

When I reflect about the months prior to our storm, I can see how my spouse’s mind and heart started to travel. He started to desire and show great interest in things that belonged to others and longed to have what was not ours. Envy became a real issue. Many of you heard this “I was not happy, have not been happy for years.” I know when I heard it I was dumbstruck.

A corrupt moral or ethic in the heart will cause a restless discontent, which will feel like “I am not happy.” This discontent will cause a person to start looking OR cause them to become easily persuaded when something comes to allure that discontentment in them.

The first thing my husband started to pray for as he walked out his repentance and turned back to God was to be content, grateful, and be thankful in every situation. This was the wisdom of God leading my husband to search his heart and address the morals and ethics in his heart that had caused him to feel discontent with righteousness.

Conclusion and for further exploration: Deep discontent can open the door to the eye of envy.

Their eyes are full of adultery; their desire for sin is never satisfied; (II Peter 2:14)

Why is twilight so important to a person tempted by sin?

Twilight is used to describe the state of a person’s belief that they can retreat into a dark place and God will not be able to see their sin to judge them. They do this because they want to be free from battling the struggle of denying what they want to enter into.

We can touch on it a bit here with scripture:

Job 24:15 The eye of the adulterer also waits for the twilight, saying, ‘No eye will see me; and he veils his face.

They are deluded into believing that God will not see or judge them because He can’t see in the darkness of twilight.

We have a few more articles that pertain to this topic.

God is so great—higher than the heavens, higher than the farthest stars.
13 But you reply, ‘That’s why God can’t see what I am doing!’ How can He judge through the thick darkness? 14 ‘For thick clouds swirl about Him, and He cannot see us. He is way up there, walking on the vault of heaven.’ Job 22:12 NLT

If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me, and the light become night around me…” Psalm 139:11

Woe to those who dig deep to hide their plans from the LORD. In darkness they do their works and say, “Who sees us, and who will know?” Isaiah 29:15

Yet you say: ‘What does God know? Does He judge through thick darkness? Job 22:13

There is no darkness or deep shadow where the workers of iniquity can hide. Job 34:22
