Do you believe that we have the freedom of choice? And with that freedom, do you believe that God will not come against it? Not interfere, influence, or give consequences when we pick and choose something that is against His will, purpose, or plan for us?

God DOES give us the freedom to make choices, BUT He is always coming AGAINST our wrong choices, just as He is blessing our right choices!

Conviction is always present, always there to put up stop signs and warnings and challenge our beliefs and desires. Conviction is like a relentless protest that is going on, picketing with signs and chants that demand you listen and hear what you don’t want to hear. See what you don’t want to see because you want to be FREE to enjoy that sin without guilt or shame. Conviction is there to present itself to oppose anything that opposes God’s Word!

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for instruction, for conviction, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 2 Timothy 3:16

Another way is through reaping and sowing. This is naturally a way that God is coming against our sinful or poor choices, He just lets our choices do the work for Him. The choices you make give consequences, both good and bad, for or against you. Therefore, God doesn’t have to show up with a blinding light to stop you. Just like with Saul, he was ALREADY bearing and feeling the consequences of his wrong choices to persecute Christians before Jesus ever appeared to him on the road to Damascus. This was evident by what Jesus stated to him when He said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. It is hard for you to kick against the goads.” Acts 9:5 Saul was already bearing the fruit of his wrong choices before Jesus revealed Himself to him.

The one who sows to please his flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; but the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Galatians 6:8

He also designed us IN His image, which means our spirits will cry out, protest, and be AT war with our flesh and souls when we go against Him. So even if He doesn’t come against us, He created us to have our spirits that are INFUSED with Him at our rebirth to do it.

The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions. Galatians 5:17

He comes against our will through anger. He doesn’t bless our sins.

It is on account of these [very sins] that the [holy] anger of God is ever coming upon the sons of disobedience (those who are obstinately opposed to the divine will), Col 3:6 AMPC

There are many, many other ways that naturally present themselves when we make the choice to walk in anything contrary to God’s perfect divine will for us -we reap the opposite. Instead of walking in faith, we walk in fear, and fear steals many things from us. Steals truth, peace, wisdom, and security. Instead of walking in trust or confidence in God, we choose the pain of walking in insecurity, which leads us to control situations.

And lastly, the worst possible way that God comes against our wrong choices will be presented to us on that fateful day when we come face to face with Him, and He acknowledges if He knew us or not.  For Him to say, “Depart from Me, I never knew you.” is Him coming against us if we come against Him.

It’s God’s love for us that creates how He comes against our flesh, human carnal nature, and desires. If He did not come against it, that would be contrary to Who He is. While He lets you choose, He does not let You off the hook for choosing wrong! That is good news for all of us!
